Would you wear makeup when going in to labour? Well we’ve been asking the Ashleigh Mother & Baby community what they did when they went in to hospital to have their babies, and most importantly, if it was worth it.

If you’re going in to labour soon, you may be wondering whether to wear makeup when you have your baby. You may feel more confident, or may want to wear it for photographs, but if you’re not sure if you’ll be comfortable or want to know whether it’s a waste of time, here’s what our community said from experience…

Many women go in to labour when in bed so may not have makeup on anyway like this lady…

“I went into labour in the middle of the night so I’d say no I didn’t.”

When you start getting contractions, it’s probably the last thing you’ll be thinking about…

“I don’t think it matters when it (labour) starts as its the last thing you think about.”

“Make up was the last thing on my mind when my fluff felt like it was in fire 🔥🙈😭.”

These women did do their hair and makeup ready for their new baby’s arrival…

“I tried to and near the end it was driving me mad so I took it off with a make-up wipe.”

“I was induced so I knew it was coming, spent over an hour on makeup. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME THAT WAS , after 40+ hrs I looked like the clown from IT.”

“Yep and straightened my hair, but I ended up vomiting all in my hair so it was a waste of time.”

“I had it on for going to be induced, optimistically thought id be taking pictures, 22hrs of contractions later i’d sweated, vomited, or splashed it all off .”

Sometimes you may already be wearing makeup like this lady because babies wait for no (wo)man…

“I  was wearing makeup to start with, only due to the fact that I had been out all day Saturday shopping for last minute baby bits as was due to be induced on the Monday. I came home and went into labour at about 5/6pm that evening before I had a chance to wash it off ( I don’t wear much makeup so was literally only Mascara, compact and eyeliner ) by the time I actually gave birth it was 24 hours later and it had all slid off anyway.”

And sometimes if you have a long labour, you can be in hospital for a while so may not want to wear any anyway…

“Nope I was in hospital two days prior to giving birth so looked a wreck.”

So the overall advice from the Ashleigh Mother & Baby community seems to be that no makeup is the best option when you go in to labour, as it tends to slide off anyway and when it comes to it your mind is usually on other things. But it’s all personal preference really, and what makes you feel the most comfortable and happy when you bring your child in to the world, and that’s the most important thing!
